Lake Michigan Circle Tour Part 2: Wisconsin's Wild Side
We started our circle tour road tripping our way through Michigan’s coast and the Upper Peninsula, check out the post here if you missed it! After crossing into Wisconsin we drove late into the night during a storm (always a fun driving combo) and eventually made it to Green Bay and found a hotel to settle in for the night. We woke up early the next morning and hopped straight back in the car because we were determined to make it to Door County with enough time to be able to hang out for a couple of days!
Door County
We had been driving through some early morning rain showers left over from the storm the night before, so when we got to Door County we wanted to find something fun to escape the rain. We ran into the Popelka Trenchard Glass Studio just in time to catch one of their glass blowing demonstrations, and got to see how they make wine glasses! At this point the rain had subsided and we went antique shopping and enjoyed some local street art installations. We found a cute little cabin to stay in for the night called the Edge of Town Motel i Sister Bay and then headed out to Husby’s Food and Spirits for dinner (read: cheese curds!) and some live music.
We started our second day in Door County at Al Johnson’s for brunch, one of my highlights of the trip! Al Johnson’s is a Swedish restaurant that is known for their sodded roof with live goats hanging out! We had initially come here the night before, but the goats had already been brought inside. So we were back early morning for breakfast, and got lucky to see the goats before they were brought back inside due to the heat. After breakfast we decided to continue on south to our next stop on the tour.
Cave Point County Park
After having a few days in lakeside towns, we wanted to get back to doing something a bit more adventurous. Cave Point has tons of different hiking paths, all complete with amazing views of the rocky shoreline. We had a great time hiking through the trees, added our initials to the collection on a dead tree trunk, and stacking rock totems along the water. We eventually made our way back to the car for snacks, and then packed up our things and got back on the road.
Milwaukee
We had just enough time for one last stop before getting back home, so Milwaukee it was! Even though Milwaukee is so close to home, neither A or I had ever been. We stopped at the Milwaukee Public Market to get some drinks and souvenirs for friends at home, and then made our way to a very secretive dinner at SafeHouse, a spy themed restaurant that was a unique treat. We solved puzzles over cocktails, were baffled by impressive magic tricks, and eventually escaped through a back alleyway! After dinner we got back in the car for the last time, and returned home.
